The Swedish group Rolighetsteorin is attempting to make the “mundane” fun through a series of experimental ideas. These ideas are an attempt to engage the way we view physical or social activity. Typically corporate sponsored ideas usually feed into some marketing hook, but much like Red Bull, VW is attempting to change that perception and become donors of the innovative. See more HERE

Track of the day

Just imagine cold caves, dark dens, vicious vaults or even strong smelling sewers. Wouldn’t it be interesting to pack all these scenes in a musical piece?

I hardly can remember all the “instruments” I used for this music. I think there were brittle wooden sticks, leaves, stones and all the other things you can find in a good wood!

I got in some reverberative tunnel to throw some cans and tins to record them, I messed around with water buckets in my room, I looked for suitable material in our kitchen drawer, I recorded a nice nightingale at 2 o’clock at night. But you can also find acoustic guitars in every track. And ukuleles. I even asked some friends to play clarinets and fiddles.

That’s how I created (roughly speaking) the official soundtrack for the adventure game ‘Alchemia’. The game and the music were both released on the 7th of september. Everybody can download the music for free.

For those who didn’t see my previous post on Julian’s music – he’s caught our attention crafting some stellar work.

Track of the day

“19 year old, tall, lanky, jewy lookin ass dude from LA proper.” That is young Shlohmo. Lets get familiar with him shall we. He studies art in the bay, has travel the world, is apart of the Wedidit collective, and makes tripped out music the way I like. At first I was sleeping on the guy. It took 5 friends to get me to pay attention to this young talent. Needless to say I’m awake. I reached out to young Slomo and found out he was a chill dude who had the same art interest as me.
So after some chit chatting he blessed me with some tracks for all you YYY heads. One stand out track was, “Post Atmosphere,” which will be released on his forthcoming Error-Broadcast presents: Shlo-fi EP. So save some hard-drive space on your computer for that project Oct. 15th. Besides his EP dropping Slomo has much other projects in the mix: an album, some compilation appearances, remix projects, etc, etc… The kid stays busy. Stay up dated via his myspace. In the mean time download the YYY exclusive below, Post Atmosphere.

Inspiration

Pretty nice video for the song The Man Who Breaks Things (Dark Shuffle) from one of my favorite bands of all time. They have a brand new E.P. coming out in October titled Fun & Laughter.

The Beats

LA keeps doin’ that damn thang. Beats with a positive message by ePistrophik Peach Sound affiliate Quazedelic AKA Quazedelic Tha Electricchurch Dogg , who is also nice on the mic. This brotha started off in Long Beach,CA and traveled on to Birmingham, AL, then to Canada. All the while staying true to his P-Funk roots. Maybe ironic but he eventually got the opportunity to play with the Funkmaster George Clinton himself! Quaze’s production credits run deeper as he also can be credited for producing some Snoop Dogg hits. Don’t sleep on this cat. Not to mention a couple tracks on the EP are produced by Georgia Anne Muldrow, who’s been busy lately. Check out her Roses EP.. lovely instrumentals on that one.

DAK

The Beats

This shit is illlll. This went right from purchase to post. The album is Standthis, the artist is L.A. producer Dak, and the bottom line — this is fire. I have to admit, I’m impressed. There is a real sense of experimental production with a funky playfulness NOT found very often in beat making today. A lot of cats claim it, few rep it. I give this an official nod.

Chopped, recontextualized and skewed sounds will penetrate deep within your eardrum (if you still have eardrums) leaving a residue that will echo for hours. The beauty of the album is it seems effortless, and sounds very unique. This is why, outside of getting into the technical aspects, it works.

Support this, the future needs it.

Track of the day

Welcome to Friday. Again. I know nothing about this band and this is their only track. Well beside a track they call Sparkle Party that is really nothing more than a little noise. I hope more info and more ear candy reveals itself in all of it’s glorious light soon, but at least we have a track for now. That’s why the rewind button was made.

Late Night Creepin

Not exactly sure how I stumbled on this last night but I know that I like it. I remember this track had a reference to The Field which I find very appropriate. It’s got a nice slow steady build. Mikey seems to be based out of Worcester Mass – very nice stuff to listen to on a Thurs afternoon. Enjoy.

Noteworthy

The eclectic nature of the second album titled Songs from Disko Bay from Brooklyn based husband and wife duo The Inner Banks is an easy land to get lost in. It’s an orchestra of what seems to be a billion instruments all fusing together to create a wonderful blend of everything I want to hear over and over again this a.m.

From their myspace
Songs From Disko Bay contains much more lyrical content than the Inner Banks’ mostly instrumental self-titled first album, and continues to build on the wide-ranging musical influences the group tends to incorporate. In addition to the usual finger-picked guitars and orchestral interludes, the new songs also subtly incorporate field recordings from Coney Island, distressed tape loops, an antique Californian harpsichord, lap steel, and a bit of banjo. Lyrically, the songs draw loosely on imagery from such faraway places as Iceland, Nepal and Mexico City that the Inner Banks has visited.

Mothertruckin iLL

Lately I’ve really been experiencing albums like I did back in the day, when I was young. Really spending a proper amount of time with each album I come in contact with. I’ve been listening to more music than ever before, cutting back on everything else in favor of a good tune. There is just so much great music out there waiting to be unearthed.

Electric Wire Hustle is some of that great music that I’ve had the pleasure of finding. Hailing from New Zealand their music has an honest, passionate, soulful vibe to it. I saw their Perception Video and had to have cop the self titled album and become familiar.

This album is getting major play right now. The deep synthesizers, live drums, guitars, man what I nicely laid out album with spaces for pause and rest and spaces for nuff head nodding. Great production
all around.

Track of the day

I’ve been zipping across the states from the ATL to Vegas to San Diego and now to SPACE. Very cool, out of this world sound made with rich base lines and hooks. This E.P. has provided some great airport music to people watch too as well as glance over city lights from the night sky.

Incoming is produced by Manchester artist Illum Sphere and packs a funky, electro-hop vibe. He is currently touring the UK and can be found spinning with some of our most beloved producers. From what I can tell via YouTube the dude presents amazing fucking sound. Check him out and get the album.
