A surfer will venture out past the breaks and wade patiently for the right wave to catch. When the opportunity presents itself, the timing has to be right and the approach has to be deliberate.
In the sea of music, there isn’t much difference. In order to get at what’s good, you have to swim out past the noise and wait patiently. That’s when artists like 40 Winks present themselves. Good timing and patience yielded The Lucid Effect.
40 Winks is a pair of producers from Antwerp – padmo’ and weedy. Both are becoming well established and are pretty active in the international scene. They have been working recently with twin cities MC m*anifest.
The production on this album is on point and well crafted. The tracks range in energy and content. The songs move nicely together and keep it interesting. The album over all has a jazz feel to it, something in between Madlib and early shadow.
Oddly enough, I didn’t realize padmo’ was on this album. Coincidentally Ness had turned me onto him a week ago. You got to check this dude out on YouTube.
Preview the album here.
