Brian’s Top 10

Unlike Oprah, it’s always hard for me to pick my favorite things in life. There are the obvious, thick cut bacon, Ransom Old Tom Gin, Toyota Landcruiser FJ60s, and Levi’s 514 jeans, but there is just so much good music out there it is exceptionally hard to decide. After a long couple of weeks earlier in the month I finally whittled it down to the following list. It isn’t in order and I broke it off into “full lengths” and “tracks.” Needless to say, 2010 was a stellar year for music.

Enjoy!

Quadron - Quadron
Janelle Monae - The Archandroid
Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma
Bonobo - Black Sands

Wes’s Top 10

My favorite albums from 2010 were a mix of old favorites (finally!) releasing new work and a few artists who, while not necessarily "new," were at least new to me. The music ranges from pristine minimalist digitalism to heavy guitar-based noise. Some of the artists even found ways to combine these two elements to create something entirely unique.

Swans- My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky
Grinderman- Grinderman 2
Brian Eno- Small Craft on a Milk Sea
Holy Sons- Survivalist Tales
James Blackshaw- All is Falling
Autechre- Move of Ten
Max Richter- Infra
Barn Owl- Ancestral Star
Melvins- The Bride Screamed Murder
Wooden Shjips- Dos

Joshua’s Top 10

Every once in a while I will be having a conversation and I hear someone talk about their disappointment with new music. I am always floored by that statement. There is so much good new music coming out I can barley keep up! Sometimes you have to search, but it's out there. Just open your ears and listen to something different.

I have to say that 2010 was a really good year for music. I made a mix of some of my favorite songs. My tastes are all over the place and so is the mix. Enjoy the music, but please support the artists. If you like the music, go buy it.

Top Ten Albums (in no particular order):

Full Crate & Mar - Conversations With Her
Mount Kimbie - Crooks & Lovers
Scuba - Triangulation
Phantogram - Eyelid Movies

The Heavies

2009 was a huge year for music. Dubstep certainly shot into the stratosphere, gaining massive popularity in the UK, Vancouver, and in the US. (to name a few) San Francisco/Bay Area has quickly become the epicenter of bass culture in the States, sharing the torch with a myriad of other cities like Austin, NYC</span>, Denver, LA, Seattle, Detroit, and the list goes on. What’s most exciting about the genre is how rapidly it’s warping and evolving. From rich harmonics to chainsaw melodies, new crossover styles are emerging constantly.
These 10 tracks were some of my favorites to play at shows in 09’
