DropxLife

2012 continues to impress with its heady tracks and digital sounding mixtapes. Here’s a drony track from DropxLife for your listening pleasure. Heard of him? He co-produced The Weeknd’s "Initiation" off Echoes of Silence and worked with Drake on Take Care. He just released an ethereal mix called “Further”;  dreamy atmospheres and blurry backdrops that push creativity to a higher level.

Orlando Seale and the Swell

Orlando Seale and the Swell is a ten member, string-heavy collective who create some epic Baroque, folk-pop. The London-based group exudes tradition, yet remains modern even with legendary string arrangements."Dance Little Man" is off their latest single, and depicts William Boyd's novel Any Human Heart.  Wikipedia states the book "explores how public events impinge on individual consciousness." The track goes down smooth like a pint, but turns rowdy by the end of the night. A talented-group of musicians right here.

Thanks for the submission. Always down to post something a little different.

Fritz Kalkbrenner - Wes

Fritz Kalkbrenner’s latest release, Wes EP, is the epitome of an ecstsasy-inducing jam. Both he and his brother, Paul, are German-based DJs with huge UK followings. After voluminous requests, Fritz finally gave in and released this uplifting anthem. He usually plays this only for live audiences, but here it is for our listening pleasure.  Whoop whoop.

Don't let the brrrrrr weather dampen your spirits. Just listen to Wes and start moooooving.

Small Town

This track was submitted to yesyesyall a few weeks ago and I still can’t stop listening to it. Grissom’s voice and lyrics are as smooth as milk and honey. He shares personal tribulations and gives audiences insight into song writing with this track.  Small Town is fluid with lyrics that just roll off his tongue. Nukky is an open book with a lot to say.

Sleepwalkers - Rear Window

In a world of progressive rock and painstakingly engineered beats, the world of rock we used to know already changed forever.  With the computer-aided soundscapes and melodramatic nuances that can be tweaked in the blink of an eye, who could blame the path the music industry has taken. Sleepwalkers, who are comprised of Richard Siddall-Jones and Ben Marsden, are a prime example of where the industry can only try to keep up with these blossoming acts.  Of course, the duo would be most easily compared to Radiohead, not because everyone compares every band to Radiohead, Coldplay and U2, but because first and foremost Sleepwalkers’ have the talent to be compared to such acts and their latest Pause EP shows just that.

Perhaps the genius behind the Sleepwalkers moniker is the flawless synergy between Siddall’s expert back-end production and Marsden’s trancelike vocals.  When I first listened to this EP, I immediately began making assumptions of who they sounded like and the Yorke / Greenwood comparison sprung to life.  In fact, I was almost sure this could have been a high-end production of a few Radiohead remakes given the tight loops and drawing vocals.  The beats are quick like that of Thom York’s solo productions (i.e. Eraser), so you can expect some quick-witted remixable tracks here and enough variation to put this EP on repeat.  An easy example here would be this, the opening track “Read Window”.  The vocals are lulling as if in a dreamlike state, while the contrast is the energetic beats that wrap the song in burrito-like fashion.

Sleepwalker’s Pause EP is a melodramatic trip worthy to spin and spin again.  We’re not kidding – If you can’t wrap your head around this one, you might as well find another hobby.

Jon Frost

The music Jon Frost makes is refreshing. He produced, mixed, mastered, wrote and sung everything on the album and it doesn't sound like anything I've heard. That's pretty hard to say in a world full of wannabes. I remeber first hearing it and being drawn in by how different it was and how well produced it was. Also listening to what he's saying it's nice to see someone drawing from reality and creating art. You can grab the FreEP Here.

Dego

"A Wha' Him Deh Pon" created by Dego of 4Hero is a wonderful soundtack to the scorching hot days of summer. A beautifully subtle yet textured blend of jazz, soul, funk and electro keeps the album vibrant.

King

Los Angeles is killing it right now. Period. The music coming out of this great American city is so fucking good it's hard to wrap my brain around. It sure is beautiful to see though, even sweeter to hear. What's better is the depth and range of the artists out there following their own creative spirit and intuition. Who the hell needs a major label calling the shots. The music industry as we knew it is DEAD and we're all reaping the benefits.

Since I am having a small love affair with L.A. music right now I'm going to highlight three groups or artists that are hogging all of the spins on my iPod right now over the next two days.

First up is King, a R & B trio of three wonderfully talented women who's harmony shines on their new E.P. The Story. I'm immediately transported to an ultra chill zone when I drift away and put em on.
