Wicked Game - Washed Out

Here is a Washed Out cover of the famous Chris Isaak song Wicked Game. It might be perfect for a karaoke machine in Tokyo, but I don't care. I always loved this song.

She isn't the best singer but she has appeal. I'm glad an artist with such a big name and following put out a video like this.

Lil’ B - Death Valley

Everybody has to know about Lil' B The Based God by now. Formerly of The Pack, releasing Youtube videos like nobody's business, dropping mixtapes like Pokemon editions, and maybe the most misunderstood artist of the Swag generation. While most of his work seems to be a well played joke, he does release some good stuff every now and then. This track displays some lyrical ability, to whatever extent, but if you came to lose some brain cells, try THIS.

Thank you, Based God.

I honestly don't know what to say. I'm almost embarrassed to admit I've watched this 4 times. It's not mind-blowingly done, and the song isn't jaw dropping, and the typography is downright dreadful, but there's still something about this I like.

Nicki Minaj Ft. Will.I.AM

So, I'm not a Nicki Minaj fan and I couldn't put my finger on exactly why this was. Then this morning I came across her new song produced by Will.I.AM titled Check It Out and I caught myself nodding my head to it. At that moment it became a little clearer to me.? ?Nicki will be a great pop artist, she has all of the skill of a Gwen Stefani, the sex appeal of a Rihanna, and the street allure of being associated with Lil' Wayne. Where I think the problem I had with her sat was in hearing people call her "lyrically one of the best in the game" etc. which I feel is a gross overstatement. I've never heard her sound the way she does on this Will.I.AM track, but if she stays on track and plays to her strengths she might just shock a lot of people in Pops arena.?

Get your Folk on!

This song is pretty damn intoxicating, with it’s sour-sweet feeling. Don’t get too excited just yet, as the title of the band suggests the rest of the record is straight up folk! I think I like this song because it feels a little more left field. This is what you would expect from band members Jim James from My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes and M. Ward from She and Him.

More from Monster’s of Folk

Bulletproof Pop in the Mix

Been really feeling the remixes of Le Roux from their debut record. Just do a quick search and you will find a number of them posted on blogs and music sites. I prefer the remixes to the original versions. I find the originals a little too juicy and sugary sweet. I think the remixes are a testament to the talent of singer Elly Jackson’s voice. She holds her own well when mashed with some different sounds, and beats. Her voice is powerful and moving, and Elly’s lyrics are subtlety haunting.

I really like the piano laced remix of Bulletproof by Nacey. It has been on heavy repeat today. This track is a certified guilty pleasure.

Pop overload for a lovely Monday morning. Great video.
