This album has already earned a place on my 'Best of the Year' list and we still have 6 months left in the year. There are only 3 spots on my list that are locked in. This album is a welcome surprise this summer. I don't fall in love with albums easily but when I do I fall fast and hard. Pause. The wonky dub influenced production and the soulful smooth vocals from both SBTRKT and guest artists such as Little Dragon help to make this album one of the most cohesive listens of the year. Last week we posted a video for the amazing Wildfire (Feat. Little Dragon) which should be peeped.
It's been a great weekend for new music. I'm pretty damn excited to have as much new, great, music as I do to vibe out to. Excuse the profanity but Mo Kolours EP1: Drum Talking is that shit. Mo Kolours fuses sounds and textures from his half- Mauritian heritage with soul, r&b, hip-hop, electric, and I'd even say a little folk. If you're fast & lucky you can grab 1 of the 8 remaining 12".
Also if you have some time extra time on your hands you should check out this little series here. Good Stuff!

Mike Gao's Sun Shadows album has been holding me down recently as I work late into the night. Mike Gao has been apart of the Los Angeles beat scene for a minute now and is also the creator of Vocal Beater an iPhone app that allows you to create a beat by beatboxing with your mouth. He's won multiple beat battle titles and has played some of the best venues and music festivals in the world. This is one of my favorites of the moment and the year so far for sure.
Third up to the plate for L.A. is killing it is no other than Dom Kennedy. I mean he didn't have to put another album out, everyone knows he's got the city of L.A. on his back, and he certainly didn't have to give it away for free. The fact that each song has it's own cover is going that extra mile to win over those that might have been on the fence. His confidence and personality bleeds through the speakers as you listen and he has a cadence marked with specific punctuation all is own. And just in case you want it chopped & screwed you can get that too!
L.A. artist number two is one Pistol Mcfly. This mixtape will leave you with quatables for days. His new Mixtape, that dropped yesterday, is appropriately titled Bong Rips & B.A.R.S and is an outstanding effort. Pistol displays both conscious thinking, metaphorical word play that rivals some of the best and a fun relaxed vibe and spirit. Respect to Jlisted for the great production and fluidity of the album. You can grab a free copy here! Get your summer music stash ready.

One of the best tracks I have heard all year. The complexity that this young british producer is creating at the moment is, well, just listen to the music. Below is an appropriate bio on Lapalux with links to his site and soundcloud. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.
"There seem to be two prominent strands within the recent glut of experimental electronic music. While some are exploring the perpetual potential of the beat, others are investigating atmosphere and texture, moving ever closer to soundscape work.
Lapalux exists in the space where these two strands converge. On an early EP, heavy, rolling percussion is offset by a layer of sensuous, organic-sounding noise. Sudden shifts in tempo and atmosphere give the impression of a playful schizophrenic at the controls, striding purposefully across the gamut of bass music.
With a sprinkle of the reverb-tinged pop and hip-hop touches that have been the staple of the US movement, he's crafted an incredibly individual sound that is explored in further depth through man and machine at his live shows."
My friend Tunji put me on and I'm completely infatuated with this mixtape. I know I've said it before but the amount of quality free music asthonises me. All you need is great friends and a keen e-digging technique and you too can enjoy hours of heat for free.
The design aesthetic matches the quality of the music which is perfect. This is one of the more cohesive projects I've come across this year.
From the the drowsy melodies to the soulful distorted & echoed vocals, this album does a great job of capturing an overall feeling and inviting you in. GET LOST...oh and you're going to want to be High For This.
