War on Drugs

The War on Drugs brings it back to simple.  Tracks from Slave Ambient resemble Tom Petty, and that’s why they rock.

Now their song lyrics are a little more strenuous. “Best Night” reminds you to keep pushing on and fighting through the night.

These musical mountaineers are back and creating some pleasantly layered music.

TiRon & Ayomari

I'm labeling it a classic cause it already is. Honestly it's not a word I throw around freely. It has to be earned and this duo out of where else...L.A. have earned it and them some with A Sucker For Pumps. L.A. is a fucking mecca for for passionate, talented musicians. It's inspiring to see. Support good music and buy a copy HERE. It's only $7.99

Cody Chesnutt

I remeber when I first picked up The Headphone Masterpiece by Cody ChesnuTT while still in collage... I was a little shocked, a little upset and at the same time very impressed. I was shocked because not many artists attempt a double disc their whole career, he did on his debut album. I was upset because, as I said I was a college student, and I took a gamble on a CD I had heard very little about and didn't get what I "expected". I was impressed and ultimately won over by the unconvintional structure, production and the soul of the album. It plays more like a beat tape at times...sketches of song ideas along with a lo-fi production style. I'm a firm believer that feeling trumps everything else and when you're done listening you deffinitely won't FEEL the same. Cody has had some other more recent releases but none as great and complete a body of work as The Headphone Masterpiece.

Stateless - Matilda

Flawless. One of many words that pops into my mind. I wasn't aware of Stateless until later last year. Matilda has just been released and it's jumped immediately to my tops of 2011. It is seriously ridiculous and if you don't buy this album, your doing yourself, your ears, and all of the people you will proceed to tell as a result of it - a great disservice. They are doing what many great bands of late are doing. Taking in many of the trends of today and incorporating them in extremely refreshing ways. I'm always a sucker for interesting percussion and Matilda is no slack here. The vocals of Chris james feel appropriate meshed against the electronic programming present in most of the songs.

Damn, damn, damn. Stateless has created a beauty of an album. Buy it. Now.

Cee-Lo green

I've been addicted to a mix that the very talented Tokimonsta threw together entitled Autumn Heat Wave. On this mix, one particular track grabbed me every single time. I'd quickly rewind to it and play it again, and again, and again. Yes I am obsessive. I finally Shazzam'd it and it turned out to be none other than Cee Lo. A track called Bass Head Jazz. The instrumentation on it is just stellar. After doing a little digging, many people believe that it's a slept on release. The album  was released in 2002 and is entitled Cee-Lo Green and his Perfect Imperfections . All I can say is don't sleep.

Juke Joint 2

It's nice being reminded of a favorite album. In an age where access to music is virtually unlimited, one could go years without ever listening to the same track twice. Every week I try to make an effort to throw shuffle on to become reaquainted with my portalble music collection. Today I came back across a classic, "Juke Joints 2 compiled Boozo Bajou. The collection of tracks on this compilation is mind blowingly phenomenal. You should definitely add this to your collection. Ahhhhh...the classics!

J*DaVeY - Smells Like Teen Spirit

J*DaVeY has breathed some new life in the the classic Nirvana song Smells Like Teen Spirit. The distorted grunge sounds have been replaced with more delicate ones. There is something beautiful that happens when a female voice takes over the ghost of Kurt Cobain.

Björk - Army Of Me (Graham Massey Remix)

Straight from the bowels of my external hard drive dungeon comes this Graham Massey interpretation of Bjork's Army Of Me. Official OG pre-millenium banger status.
