Actress - Parallel World

My jaw is dropping on this track. Reminds me of of the feeling I got when I first started listening to electronic music. When I first got my hands on the early Warp catalog. Those sounds were life changing, and fresh. Actress is doing some amazing work. Check out more of his music on the Werkdiscs imprint.

Gold Panda - MPB

I heart this previously unreleased track by Gold Panda, and it is being given away as a free download from his site. It pretty much emcompasses everything I like about this artist.

Jamie XX - Far Nearer

MillionYoung

Record label Arcade Sound is responsible for putting out some of the best music currently hitting my eardrums. Their list of artists includes Memoryhouse, Coolrunnings, Teen Daze and MillionYonung justto name an astonishing few. It's a MillionYoung that I recently discovered though. The Be So True  E.P.sounds so free and honest. Real easy to listen to but it ain't easy listening ya dig. iTunes says it's not supposed to be out until January 26th but it's available now! Also if you want to ease into things (and I can't imagine why you would because the music is NICE!) and get a feel for MillionYoung's music you can grab the Sunndreamm E.P. & the track "Feel the Same" here for free.

Caroline - Swimmer

Caroline Lufkin turned her back on a major label deal a few years ago to focus on the kind of music she wanted to make. Her sister had already become an overnight sensation in J-Pop but Caroline opted for a longer slower road to success. “Swimmer” is the first single off the upcoming full length titled “Verdugo Hills.” It’s a hauntingly beautiful electro-angelic song that reminds me a bit of Björk mixed with a little Cibo Matto. I look forward to hearing the rest of the album soon when it comes out in January.

Anenon - Chimera

Los FUCKING Angeles. I have to say, we sure do bring some heat. Another label to be watching is the newly founded Non-Projects. They recently put out a spilt release of Asura and Anenon titled Silver Trees. Highly recommended.

Check out the Non-Projects Soundcloud for more music.

Feisar - Miori

I Have No Memory Of This Place is gorgeous record from Aaron Sjogren, aka Miori. The best way to describe the sound is lot’s of layers, heavy synth patches, and synthetic melody's. The record is split right down the middle in to beat driven and ambient compositions. The album get's extra points for it's cover and nice typography. It's available now on the Nueva Forma imprint.

Tobacco - Mexican Icecream

Tom Fec (aka Tobacco) is a bit of an enigma. He pops up here and there remixing stuff or can be heard through his band Black Moth Super Rainbow. He is usually photographed wearing some sort of weird mask. What is known is that listening to his music you feel as if your brain is being put through the maniac meat grinder. Many of the tracks feel a bit like digital anarchy. They swirl around building up and then just as you think you can begin to bob your head to the beat it falls apart. The track Mexican Icecream off Maniac Meat sounds like what a Mega Man song would sound like if you dropped acid. The vocoder effects on his vocals give it a very surreal and almost demonic feel washing the verses in a dark mire of discomfort at times. It definitely challenges your perception of what pop music can be.

Actress

Werk Discs head and UK music don Actress follows up his debut Hazyville;being critically acclaimed across the board for its atmospheric, ambient moods, ) the second album, entitled Splazsh. It's set to expand on those themes, taking in a broader range of styles you might find akin to one of his DJ sets (real electro, disco, house and UK bass).

Found this appropriate write up on Pitchfork ( the site I love to hate ) Andy Battaglia nails Actress. Actress himself has called his music "R&B concrète," and that helps illuminate the way he works from both inside and outside a track. He has an ear for building up a song from the bottom (like a pop producer) and then abstracting it from the top (like a musique concrète technician), so that he makes some incredibly strange sounds surprisingly palatable-- and without making a big show of their strangeness.
