I was eleven when I first busted out the running man. It was summer camp and nothing could have been more hip. This video really takes me back.

It drops tomorrow. It’s our track of the day. It’s prolly going to be one of the best releases of the year. Mark our words.

The ever talented and busy Los Angeles artist Take released this album towards the end of 2007. I don’t think this guy ever sleeps. His more recent Plus Ultra EP is unbelieveable, a must have. He collaborates with Ras G from time to time, you can hear similarities in their music. But really… what I’m waiting for is Thomas 2000, Take’s alter ego. It will be out on vinyl at Rush Hour, but we really need some mp3’s! I’ll probably buy the vinyl as well. Here’s a write up from his myspace page:
“After realeasing numerous sucessful EP’s on labels like Buttermilk, Poobah, Swedish Brandy, and Astro Lab, and working/remixing artists like Daedelus (Ninja Tune), Caural (Chocolate Industries, Mush), Rednose Distrikt (Rush Hour), TAKE drops his Long Awaited full length. “Earthtones & Concrete“ is 18 tracks that further blur the line between instrumental Hip Hop and Outer Space. “ These songs are nothing short of epic journeys, continuously evolving compositional collages that lead the listener down a dust covered road of bit-crushed melodies and molested jazz samples. Think Brian Eno meets J Dilla..”

I’ve read that The Flashbulb’s latest album was released for free on the internet. How about them apple’s Radiohead? So, I checked it out and was amazed by the diversity of this artist. The music on ‘Soundstrack to a Vacent Life’ is almost somewhat schizophrenic in theme and epic on track count. The mixing and instrumentation is eclectic, with a nostalgic feeling throughout.

I’m on my laptop with virtually no music but I unearthed this great album that Josh had sent me some time ago. It’s by a group named Run-Return out of Los Angeles.
Here’s something written about the group by Michael Henaghan of angryape.com…
Run_Return, a group of three friends based in California, formed through a shared love of vintage recording equipment, digital editing and the Krautrock movement of the 1970’s. Employing innovative recording techniques with some colourful organic instrumentation has enabled this group to craft a sound that seems carefully calculated, but is in fact full of warm melodies and kaleidoscopic textures.
The image is from FFFFOUND. I was looking at it while listening to this song. I think it fits. But that’s just me.

I have following Boom Bip’s music since his classic recording “Circle” with mc Doseone. His new project Neon Neon is a collaboration with Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys. It caught my eye, with the lushious photography of a woman’s hand griping a Delorean shift stick. The tracks are reminiscent of 80’s synth pop. I like the direction he is going, it is nicley unexpected.

This site is primarily focused on music – but we are also fans of graphic rich subject manner. While perusing a recent NY Times I came across an article that I thought was very pertinent and a good example of the state of America represented in class division.
Also – this is an OP-ED article. The empahsis being opinion. The graphs are the best part – so pull them up and have a look.

Valentines Day might be over, but there is plenty of love still out there if you look. So don’t feel hopeless quite yet.
Check out the Milosh album Meme. This one of my favorite records. It blends melodic sounds, with subtle electronics that stay freaked out. Milosh vocals are serene, he sounds almost like a woman.
His third album is coming out soon and is being mixed by Joshua Eustis of Telefon Tel Aviv. You can hear the new track ‘Awful Game’ on his myspace page. There is a good interview with him here.

First off – what a awesome name for a site. My good friend Bryan Collins has recently created this blog to post misc. photos he has been taking and collecting of trash in New York. The scenes when looked at through the lens of a camera, begin to take on individual characteristics that in some ways resemble fine art. Have a look at Bryan’s unique photos of – well – trash. His work is well worth a sit down as well.

If you like Radiohead, if you like hip hop infused beats, chances are you will like this remix album by Amplive. It’s getting a fair amount of circulation and after doing a couple listens I feel like it’s well worth a nod. So stroll over and download this album. Enjoy.
In the meantime – check out Weird Fishez. Nice.

Again – Very Short List provided a scrumptious link today. A short film by Chris Vincze that is a sure fire way to warm your heart on any day. While I’m at it Happy Valentine’s day Karen – I love you.
Watch a nice little valentine’s day video.

I’ve been hooked on Folk for the last year and a half. There have been a string of really solid, wonderful releases. One such release due out this month is by Sam Amidon. I won’t sit here and babble about how relaxing and soothing his music is – why would I do that when you can play the track of the day – read up on his bio – and view a video of his here. Thanks Blackmarmalade for the tip.

I subscribe to a pretty cool little site that sends me daily emails that are more times than not, very insightful and entertaining. It’s called Very Short List. On one such feature they showcased a very interesting site that showcased the work of a rather well known furniture maker by the name of Donald Judd alongside furniture that looks similar but can be found in – well – Wal Mart. Take a gander at the quiz yourself here – and see if you can determine what is deemed fine art.

I am addicted to RSS feeds these days. It’s the best way to find new music, news, gossip, or whatever. I found Kid Cudi from the Rcrdlbl feed. It caught my eye when I saw he was perfoming in Hawaii this week. Not too many good acts come here, so I can rejoice when they do. It’s on Valentines day too, so I can take my shorty.

Every Wednesday at the Airliner in L.A. producers come out and flex their skills for a live audience. Check it out if you’re in the area. Everyone from Samiyam, Flying Lotus, Nosaj Thing, Ras G, and Gaslamp Killer (host) brings it. They even do beat invitations where you can hear exclusive tracks. This album is Daedelus’ live set. If you’re a fan then alot of these samples will sound familiar. They’re just remixed and repackaged. All Daedelus’ sounds like you’ve never heard them before, made right from the monome. For some folks this may be redundant but give it a shot. I love his live sets and have always wanted to own one. And if you thirst for more electronic elation, Daedelus has 3 upcoming projects to satisfy. “Love To Make Music To” LP, “The Long Lost” with Laura Darlington LP, and “Adventure Time in Space” with Frosty LP (this is gonna be hot!!!).

You can’t help but notice all the news lately, people are rushing to the polls in record numbers. This year, young people have the opportunity to make a difference. Get out there and vote, regardless of what your choice is.
We have to give props to Barack Obama, Youth identify with him. He’s getting them out to vote, and that’s a powerful thing. Time will only tell what will happen to this country, but one thing is certin … it’s time for some change.

Check out the Flylo man’s new mix on Dublab. Featuring new beats from Ras G, Samiyam, and Lotus himself. Not available for download, you’ll have to stream this lil baby. Photo courtesy of nefariousgirl.com. Enjoy.

Catch this lil gem from Stones Throw’s James Pants. It’s only available on vinyl so head out to your local record store or order it online here. This cat is wacky, lovin’ the humor in his music. Reminds me of Loose Ends. The album consists of 10 tracks composed by James himself. All sampled from his live instrumentation. It’s definitely got a fair amount of 80’s charm for all you old heads, and the beats are fresh… but what’s up with the artwork?? Also check out the Kash/Cosmic album.
